Moonset and Sunset over the Belize River Valley

I got up early on a cool March morning, as I tend to do, and opened my front door to this. It was the moon in full bloom, setting over the river valley in which I live. Ix Chel is the ancient Maya goddess of the moon and I felt very close to her that dawn.

I turned around and took a picture of the sunrise on the southeast side of my house.

Here's a sunset over the same lush valley in April. I am very close to the earth in my house on the hill. I feel very connected to the space in which I live. I am thankful everyday for the opportunities I have in my life.

Courage to do the ATM Cave

Actun Tunichil Muknal - the ATM Cave, has been one of those tour activities I knew I would choose not do. It is physically challenging - swimming, crawling, climbing pulling pushing, creeping, and hiking and walking. Not me - the aging hippie, Jason's mom, sedentary, overweight and prone to hurting myself while out of the country. Well, my Archaeology class decided we would go as a group to see what our professor was so excited about.

ATM is by now, a well known sacred Maya cave, big and deep, way up in a river valley. Deep in the jungle of Belize, south of the village of Teakettle, the hiking trail runs along the Roaring Creek River.
